My Little Corner in Cyberspace: Office Parties and Cameras

This weekend we had Anduin's office party. It was at the same location as last year. The owner mentioned to me that he always likes to do something better every year, but he had so many comments and requests to have it at the same location. Everyone mentioned that the place was perfect.

It really was great. The food, music, the dancing and people were all wonderful. The only small snag happened about a 1/2 hour before the party ended. The flash on my spiffy camera gave out. One picture it was good, the next nothing. All of my efforts to get the flash to work were futile. I was a bit put off, but I'm glad that it happened at the end of the party instead of the beginning.

I was dreading having to take the camera back. I was concerned that they would give me a hard time since I purchased it 2 months ago, and I was going to return it at a different location than where I purchased it from.

After work I came home, packed the lenses, camera, all the accessories and paperwork back in the box. (I never throw away boxes from my toys. We still have the box from our HDTV!) Once all was packed I headed to the store.

Have you ever had an experience so pain free you feel that you are having your leg pulled? I mean, life can't be that easy can it? But alas, it can be. After patiently waiting my turn at the customer service line, I was asked how I could be served. Not helped, but rather served. I set the box on the counter and told the young man that the flash was no longer functioning on my camera. He looked at the receipt, scanned the box, looked at his computer monitor and said "OK sir, let's head on over to the the cameras and get you a new kit". He didn't even open the box to make sure that everything was there! He just took my word that everything that came with the box was being returned.

Just like that. Two minutes is all it took for the man with the keys to replace the kit. After we returned to the counter, a new receipt was printed and I was off.

It's nice to get that kind of service. There is a reason why I go to that store, it's nice to be reminded that I am a valued customer and not a burden.

The camera lasted exactly 2 months with 4,703 pictures taken. I looked online and found nothing to indicate that the flash going out was a widespread issue, or even a small issue for that matter, so I am considering this as one of those things that happen. To be on the safe side, both the box and receipt are in a safe place. Just in case.
